He has only recently started to get some air time on the radio with his hit "Come on Get Higher" off of his last album, Beneath These Fireworks, which so far, has been of his best. Every song he writes has both beautiful lyrics and melody and you can't help but love him. Listening to Matt's recordings are incredible, but seeing him live in an experience like no other. Not because he is so great to listen to, but because he is so personable, and roll on the floor funny. You can just tell he absolutely loves what he is doing. Not to mention he always makes a point to meet with the fans after each show, which is always a nice touch. Matt's new album, Modern Love, is to be released very soon. This is the first song he has released off of that CD, and although it has a little bit of a different sound than usual, it is absolutely wonderful and makes you just want to get up and dance!

The Powder Kegs

I actually just came across these guys the other day while watching a commercial and this song, La Mariposa, was being played. It is rare that you will hear someone with such an amazing tone.

Ray was working in a shoe factory in Maine when he heard a song by Stephen Stills that inspired him to pursue a career in music, and after being around for awhile, he is finally getting some real attention and even grammy nods, and won Best Contemporary Folk Album for his latest release, God Willin' and the Creek Don't Rise.

As always, it's so hard to pick just one song from an artist to represent how great they are. This was the first song of his that I fell in love with, so I figured it would have you hooked too.

Another one of my favorites which is more upbeat is, "You are the Best thing", and Hold you in my arms which is also a more mellow tempo is great too. Really they all are.

Ray was just nominated for song of the year for "Beg, Steal, or Borrow", which you should definitely give a listen.

Enjoy :)

Music Worth Listening To

I have always had a knack for discovering new artists. Since I was young I was always stumbling across these little bands or solo artists who were scarcely known and would just get the sense that they would one day become big stars, and soon enough, they were. I don't know if it's just me, but these days the stuff on the radio isn't always...inspirational. Not that all music has to be, but there is a lot of popular music out there that doesn't really do anything for me. Of course, there are top 40 artists that really deserve to be there, but there are so many little guys that deserve the recognition and just aren't getting it. So, I'm playing my small part to introduce you blog readers to some of the artists I think are great. Of course, what I love may not be your cup of tea, but I hope you like these artists, I sure do. I just hope I don't get in trouble for copyright infringement for passing (music) notes in class *wink*. Yeah, I'm cheesy like that, deal with it, it's valentines day!
